What is Dunedin Online?

Dunedin Online is a curated guide to the local businesses, places, and experiences that make Ōtepoti Dunedin special. It’s here to help you discover good local things - from shops and studios to food, culture, and things to do, all online and in one place.

Originally created to support Dunedin businesses selling online, Dunedin Online has grown alongside the local business community. Today, it brings together independent locals with an online presence, making it easier to explore, discover, and support what’s happening around the city.

At its heart, Dunedin Online exists to celebrate local creativity, entrepreneurship, and community - connecting people with the businesses and experiences that choose to be part of it.

Who runs Dunedin Online?

Founded in 2013

Dunedin Online was established in 2013 by Emily Cooper and Sam Clarkson, with a simple but powerful idea: to showcase Dunedin’s local traders and online businesses, especially those quietly doing great things under the radar.

From the beginning, the site focused on supporting local enterprise, encouraging online growth, and making it easier to discover and support Dunedin based businesses. Over the years, Dunedin Online evolved alongside the local business community, introducing new features and initiatives while staying true to its purpose.

Carrying it forward

In 2025, after more than a decade running Dunedin Online, Emily and Sam decided it was time to step back and pass the site on.

Having used Dunedin Online herself and seen its value firsthand, Sarah Williams took on the role of stewarding the site into its next chapter, alongside her partner Chris. Their focus is on continuing the spirit the site was built on, supporting local businesses, celebrating creativity, and keeping Dunedin’s independent scene visible, accessible, and connected online.

Today, Dunedin Online remains a curated guide to the businesses, places, and experiences that make Dunedin special, shaped by the people who choose to be part of it, and grounded in a genuine love for the city.

Dunedin Online is proud to use the official Dunedin brand. To learn more about everything Dunedin has to offer, go to DunedinNZ.com
