Fiona Paine Art
"I love being commissioned to do works of the homes, pets, places, people and things most special to people and noticing all the beautiful little details as I create."
Fiona Paine is a Dunedin-based artist working across printmaking and mixed media, with a focus on capturing the quiet details that make places and memories feel personal.
Since graduating from Otago Polytechnic in both Fine Art and Fashion Design, Fiona has continued to develop a distinctive style that combines drypoint etching with watercolour and other mixed media. Her work often centres around familiar spaces, homes, streets, and local scenes, approached with a softness and attention to detail that makes each piece feel both intimate and recognisable.
She is particularly known for her house portraits, creating custom pieces that capture the character of a home and the memories tied to it. From architectural details through to the small, personal touches, each work is thoughtfully composed to reflect what makes that space meaningful. Commissions are available across a range of styles, including drypoint etching, watercolour etching, and mixed media, and are often more accessible than people expect.
Alongside her commissioned work, Fiona produces small, limited edition series such as Snapshots of Our City, featuring hand-printed and hand-painted scenes from around Dunedin, and Winter Beach Adventures, a quieter series inspired by time spent exploring the local coastline with her young child.
Her work can be found locally at Pea Sea Art Gallery in Port Chalmers, The Makers Lounge in Moray Place, and through the Otago Art Society, or purchased directly.
Fiona’s work offers a way to hold onto places and moments, whether it’s a much-loved home, a familiar street, or a fleeting memory of time spent by the sea.
