Whimsy Home + Studio

Whimsy started 12 years ago as a creative outlet while its founder raised her son, and what began in a garage eventually grew into a Central City shop built around a lifelong craft background. The studio has since moved back home, where the focus is now on making drum lampshades and handmade cushions, stocked at The Woolston Emporium in Christchurch.

The ethos behind Whimsy has always been about buying less and buying better. Pre-loved lamp bases are sourced, safety checked, and given a new life. Vintage fabrics are sought out and turned into lampshades and cushions rather than ending up in landfill. The whole thing is built around reduce, reuse, recycle in a way that feels practical rather than preachy. Quality over quantity, old materials made new, and a genuine belief that how we shop matters.
