Blue Willow Blueberries

Want to know one of our favourite whānau activities? Pick your own blueberries at the magical Blue Willow blueberry farm.

Tucked away at the foot of the Chain Hills in Fairfield, just 15 minutes from central Dunedin, is one of the most idyllic hidden spots in all of Ōtepoti. After a short wander down the drive, past a serene pond and a few friendly ducks, you’ll arrive at rows and rows of juicy, organic blueberries, ready to fill your buckets.

Certified Organic

Blue Willow is lovingly run by Hannah and Vinnie, alongside their kids, who carefully nurture hundreds of blueberry bushes year-round in preparation for their summer pick-your-own season. There’s something special about knowing exactly where your food comes from, and even better when little hands can help gather it.

The orchard has its own sunny microclimate and is fully certified organic with BioGro NZ. Sustainability is clearly at the heart of what they do, from gentle growing practices to swapping plastic punnets for recyclable cardboard at the market. You can even bring your own container when buying from them, which we love.

Pick-your-own sessions operate by booking only, so it’s worth planning ahead. If picking isn’t your thing, you’ll find Blue Willow at the Otago Farmers Market on Saturday mornings in season, from 7am until sold out. They also offer fresh and frozen blueberries directly, with frozen berries available year-round while stocks last.

Whether you’re baking, preserving, smoothie-making, or just eating them by the handful on the way home, these are proper, flavour-packed blueberries. The kind that stain your fingers and remind you what summer tastes like.
